Enhanced by sunshiny colors and details this print portrays a noteworthy time in Baptist history in Texas, soon after it was declared a free and independent republic in 1836. Z. N. Morrel, the pioneer Texas Baptist from South Carolina, and fellow Christians headed home after a service one night. In the background, you will notice the dismal circumstances, that the atmosphere between the Indians and Americans was still uncertain and strained. Yet, above the howling Indians and creaking ox carts, the congregation gave a living testimony of their solid faith and trust in God, calmly singing songs of Zion, driving away their gloom.
